Description

In my quest to find poses other than boring standing ones, I drew a dragon girl who seems to be having some trouble balancing atop an orb.

Should I begin with the strong points? Not saying any point is particularly weak, but I, in a humble opinion, see room for improvement. The Vision is well defined, though the point of focus, the girl on the orb is kind of contested with the green color of her hands and feet, as well as the focus being blurred by the bright white creeping into the piece at the uppermost section, with both of those points stated I see that they balance quite well, the color green being roots in the field of blues, and the whiteness a stand-in for an in view light source, for that I can say I think 4 stars is an excellent score. Now for the stronger point, originality. I have seen clone after clone of the Firefox pose, a little fox curling about the world as if it were some ball to toy with, but this doesn't have that, and it doesn't hint at it as well. This seems to me more like a balancing act, not some still of a fox mid action, this pose could've been held for quite some time, sadly, doing so could cause terrible cramp for the pictures subject, but so is the way of fighting for one's balance, and I have, balancing beams are not a game once you feel yourself teetering. The technique is sublime, contoured shadows and highlights never meeting but come the closest at the focus of the art itself, drawing your mind up and stretching it to see the background, the foreground, and the focal point. The overall impact of this piece is only slightly dampened by the green of her feet, I seem a little too much yellow in it, but for an experiment with poses I am astonished.
